Jee Won Kim is a composer based in the United States and South Korea. Her music explores the relationship between time, space, and perception and is strongly inspired by fine art and literature. One of her biggest curiosities is “How people play, listen to, and perceive music?” She deeply studies how she, as a composer, can interact with the world through music and how she can deliver her ideas to the audience – even to the one who cannot hear them. And finally reaches to a conclusion “What if I write music that can be heard without hearing, seen without seeing?” 

She has collaborated with ensembles and artists including andPlay, Festino Chamber Choir, International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Yarn/Wire, Unheard-of Ensemble, Studio Dan, Martin Schmeding, Josh Perry, Chris Gross, John Popham, Matti Pulkki, Ben Roidl-Ward, Clara Cho, Alberto Menjón, Robert Wente, and Jixue Yang. And her music has been presented at festivals and conferences including MISE-EN Festival, TUTTI New Arts Festival, CFAMC Conference, Synesthesia Lab, CLICK FEST, ReMusik.org Festival, Northwestern University New Music Conference (NUNC!), International Computer Music Conference (ICMC), Yarn/Wire International Institute, SEAMUS National Conference, and Ostrava Days.

She won First Prize at SongSLAM Indiana 2026, was named a National Finalist (Honorable Mention) for the 2025 Charles Ives Award in Instrumental Chamber Music from The American Prize, and received a Special Prize in the 5th Ise-Shima International Composition Competition. And she was previously a finalist for the 2021 Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. 

She is a co-founder and co-director of Overtuned Fest, a cross-genre group bridging contemporary classical and experimental rock, and ENAE, a collective of Korean women composers.

Jee Won holds a Doctor of Music degree in Composition with a minor in Music Theory from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she served as an Associate Instructor in both Composition and Music Theory. She also earned degrees from Chung-Ang University (BM) and Manhattan School of Music (MM). Her principal teachers include Aaron Travers, David Dzubay, Reiko Füting, Insun-Cho, and Eunsil Kwon.
